I am being charged for data but my data is turned off. Only downloaded one app so far.


Data charges despite not using data

Hello Bill,

If your data is turned off on your phone and you used data, can you please check in the usage what app has used data?
I downloaded only Go Pro and the Go Pro training app off Play Store, then turned data off.

I am a bit confused here. If you downloaded anything from Play Store you must have used some data so your data were briefly turned on. You can turn it off after but for the brief moment when it was on many things could happen in the background in addition to the size of Go Pro download.
That download of GoPro was done last week, but my account ids still showing ongoing usage when I visited the Koodo booth locally, so it must still be running. I have not accepted any of the software upgrades posted on my phone either.

Do you have wifi assist or something similar enabled? This will turn data on when an internet connection is weak. Have you not turned data on at all since the download of the app? How much data has been used since the download of the app?

So if I understand you correctly you did some download last week using some data and turned your data off. You accepted charge for that. For some reason even after turning data off up to this moment your phone still using data.

Unless there is something wrong with your phone or you have wifi assist enabled like Allan said or downloaded some app that turn it on without you knowledge there is a very little chance phone itself can do it. Actually some phones and latest Android upgrades make it even harder to turn it on.

Please check it carefully if indeed it wasn't turned on or is still turned on without your knowledge and permission.

Bill, looking at your account, every day for the last 2 weeks there has been data usage. Your last month invoice also had pay per use data charges. Only you can tell what it is as per the others who have mentioned this above. Pls follow their recco to disengage whatever might be responsible for the data use.
