Try a simple restart on your phone and/or try removing and reinserting your sim card. What happens when you try to call? Does it ring at all, do you get an error, etc? You said new sim, did you have an old sim with Koodo in the same phone that allowed you to make calls? Are you on prepaid? If so do you have a talk booster with a sufficient amount of minutes?
On a new plan, tried restarts, Sims in outs, reset default APN, dials but then just hangs... not dial tone or anything. And any incoming calls go straight to voicemail. So frustrating...

Is the phone new or have you been using it for a while? Are you new to Koodo or just switched plans?

Did you transfer your number, or is it a new number?

So everything works find except calling? That's weird. Have you ever tried your SIM card in another phone? Just to see if it's the card or the phone that causes the problem

Unfortunately yes, my card works in different phone and a different koodo sim gives the same problems in my phone. Think it might be to do with the calling frequency??

I see that one variant of the G7 is not compatible with 3G while another is. Were you previously with Rogers or Fido by any chance?

Nope, was with a different provider in different country that was 3G dominant? Koodo 4G though?

If you know the variant of your phone you could go check compatibility here : http://willmyphonework.net

Oh another country. So I see 2 G7 models. The  G7 Plus, which doesn't have 850/1900mhz in 3G, and Ascend G7, which one submodel does (L03) and the other does not (L01). Koodo has LTE, but it has not released VoLTE yet, so you cannot rely on that for voice.

Thanks Robert and Goran. Looks like the frequency is the problem. Thanks for the link... any recommendations between virgin and Rogers or bell as a provider?

If you wish to keep your phone, Bell is not viable as they use the same frequencies as Telus/ Koodo. I'm not up to speed with Bell and VoLTE, maybe they have it nationwide, in which case bell / Virgin maybe would work. Telus has it in select markets so that might work for you. Rogers and Fido have 2G so you would be fine with them. All providers (minus Freedom using aws) use 850/1900mjz for 3G.

I wouldn't want to be limited to a 2G network with a modern smartphone.

Will it use LTE for data while voice is on 2G?
