Ok I have a $30 plan right now and want to upgrade my phone to the Nexus 4 on a medium Tab, do I have to choose a new $30 or higher plan or since I have a $30 plan already can I just upgrade my phone on the medium Tab and keep my old plan that is already $30? Love to hear from Koodo rep here. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a Sales Rep at Koodo. Nope! You can keep the same $30 plan you have. Just a heads up that a Tab Charge of $5 will apply if you choose the Tab Medium. Cheers!

Just have a question for you Jonathan, how does it work for the Samsung galaxy s4 as I saw you all raised the price and its hard to understand how it would work to get it cheaper or try to anyway.

Hi Stevie! There are three ways to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S4. The reason the retail price was raised is because our Tabs offer more subsidy than before and hence customers can reduce the upfront costs. The price of the S4 will be $575 on Tab S, $425 on Tab M and $225 Tab L. As for Tab S, you can choose any price plan or you can keep your current price plan if you are already with Koodo. For Tab M, your price plan must be $30 or greater and and a monthly Tab Charge of $5 will apply. Lastly, for Tab L you must select a Tab L plan with a monthly Tab Charge of $10. Keep in mind that Koodo will wipe your Tab balance after 24 months if you still have negative credits. To answer your question, there is absolutely a way to get the phone cheaper, the Koodo Tab helps you reduce the upfront costs and we contribute 15% (plus Tab Charge if applicable) to help you pay off your phone. 🙂

Yeah the tab deal has changed a bit, you now need to pay off your tab in order to upgrade. Just log in to self serve and under tab there is an option to add your negative balance to your next bill.

It is an obligatory step for each upgrade for now on!

You must take a new $30 rate plan as well as upgrade your device to get the 15% towards the tab.

Hey MykeC, So you can keep the old plan and upgrade on a medium Tab but you'll just continue to get 10% towards the tab instead of 15%?

No, you need to get a new plan to go onto the medium tab. The 15% is a benefit for switching to the new rate plan.

Wow that's terrible. Not impressed in the slightest 😞

At least that's how I understood it from the training & our help files. Since this was just added on today, I'm almost positive we all will have tons of questions and will need clarification over the next 2 months 😛.

It would make more sense to offer it to customers the way I'm thinking of it. Then your kind of making customers happy with a loyalty sort of offer and all the ppl who wanted that with it not costing koodo anything as users still have a $30 or higher plan right. I think it would be a lot better IMO.

Okay so now we have a conflict of information. Do grandfathered plans carry over to the new tab system or not? I have the 60$ / 3GB plan which is no longer offered. I also have a tab with 0$ left on it. So does this mean that in order to use a 150$ tab again I will have to choose one of the new plans? I hope not.

If you are on an old plan, you stay on the 10% tab contributions. To get the 15%, you need to upgrade your plan to one of the new ones. To upgrade your tab size, you need to upgrade your device.

So if I don't want to change plans I can just use my available tab towards one of the newly priced phones and I keep my Old plan at 10 % contribution. I will not be forced to take another plan to get a subsidy?

Which is not what Jonathan Lo said. The Large Tab Plans are confusing enough as it is. If you are on an old plan to get the "old" tab contribution this adds another level of complexity

I would go kiosk to kiosk until one of the reps just gives me the answer I want when I upgrade 😛 Like asking dad after mom says no

I can't see Koodo's new Tab system staying the way it is for too long. The amount of confusion is going to be staggering with old vs new plans eligible for this but not for that, but for $10 more it could, but suddenly if you switch plans it can not. The feedback from customers will be atrocious.

I'm not even sure Koodo's a discount brand anymore with plans like these. Seriously, they need to watch their back before an MVNO fills the void they left in the value bracket now.

It's a tough change to swallow. I think this affects new customers more. Maybe the market is more for free phones than for cheap plans. If the market asks for it then I understand why Koodo is making the change

I enjoy my prepaid for these exact reasons. As long as they leave it (prepaid) as-is, I have nothing to complain about. They really should direct potential new customers disgusted by the new plans to prepaid. I don't think twice about buying the phone I want outright, but I want value in my plan. Right now, prepaid looks better.

When I head into work tomorrow, I'm going write down everything tab related and try to make it in an easy to understand way. The current FAQ doesn't provide enough information(such as needing to switch to a new $30 plan to get the 15% tab contribution).
