Cheapest way to roam on the EU

I’ll be in the EU for thirty days and 10 per day can add up plus I have to pay me regular bill. Any suggestions would be welcome!!

The $10 per day is up to a maximum of $100 per billing cycle.  If you billing cycle starts/ends around the middle of your trip, that would be $200 of roaming charges + Plus your regular billing.  Do you plan to use your regular amount of talk, text and data on your travels?

Depends on what you need to have use of your own number for. Voice / video chats with multiple chatting apps are very easy and commonplace. You can also get a free Canadian number line from a VoIP company and use that you get and make calls to Canada. I maintain a Fongo line for that use, and unlike most others, you don't need to use it every few days to keep your account active.

The $10 per day is up to a maximum of $100 per billing cycle.  If you billing cycle starts/e...You could get a free Fongo (or other VoIP service & app) account, add forwarding to your Koodo plan for $3/month (you can cancel it when you return), and forward your inbound calls to your Fongo number while away.  Then pick up a local (EU provider) service with enough data for your regular data usage plus calling.  You can use Hangouts Dialer for outbound calls and make them look like they are coming from your regular Koodo phone number (provided your verify your phone number in Hangouts before leaving Canada).

Cheapest way would be to get a plan/sim from a local carrier for the $30 days. Make sure your phone is unlocked and compatible or it wont work.

You definitely want a local prepaid sim. For example you can get a French sim from Free Mobile which gives 100gb of data for 20 euros a month. Just look at http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Prepaid_SIM_with_data and select the country. If you'll be in multiple countries, you still get to roam within the EU and you get a quarter of the data allotment for roaming.

Check your phone out against European carriers. Most recent mid- to upper-end handsets will be fine, but just in case....

I know parent Telus already made the increase on May 1st, so i would*assume* Koodo would follow suit at home point, but I can't seem to find any info on the June 1st increase you mentioned. I'll be travelling internationally in July and would very much like to know if this is definitely happening or not. Thanks in advance!
Indeed, Easy Roam International will begin costing $12/day June 1, 2018. Please note that the cap will also be changing to $150 per billing cycle at that time. We have also increased our roaming coverage to include 25 new countries.

One if the reasons I took the migration offer from Public Mobile to Koodo was for access to Easy Roam, thinking of my summer trip. It was already going to be expensive at $10 with a $100 billing cycle cap, but I was prepared to deal with it for the convenience

Unfortunately, due to having no say on my billing cycle start day, and the Koodo Web Store activating my service on a date that will fall part way through my trip, combined with the 20% daily rate increase and 50% raise in the billing cycle cap, Koodo has now priced themselves out of the running for my trip. I will end up using a less convenient alternative. I can order an EU SIM to my home and use it with 2GB data for about $39 Canadian and it should cover me the whole trip. I'll forward my calls to Fongo and move all my SMS conversations over to WhatsApp. What a pain.

@Mackenzie thank you for confirming. Was there an announcement of some kind? This is really disappointing.

Indeed, Easy Roam International will begin costing $12/day June 1, 2018. Please note that the cap...Yeah i just did the math. I need 16 days worth, and due to the new pricing and cap, I'd be paying for all of them. That would work out to $192 Canadian + tax just for the Easy Roam portion, vs about $39 Canadian + tax for a Data SIM + EU Data 2GB plan from LeFrench Mobile. That's a no-brainer for sure. We sure pay through the nose in Canada.

The verbiage in the section at the bottom of the page, as well as the public Easy Roam page, is still outdated, however.  This should get updated soon to avoid confusion and misrepresentation.
