Changing cellphone plan, beware!!

If you are planning on changing your plan beware.  I have changed plans on two of  my cell phones on my account.  If you are going to change plans find out what your pay cycle dates are.  I changed mid cycle and charges on both phones ended up more than the plan was or is.  I was charged with over usage on unlimited plans. Both phones ended up with charges higher then the plan even though there was no over usage.  I even made changes online to save service charges.

I phoned and had the data and phone usage credited back, but not the over plan charges returned.  I had no luck explaining to the customer service rep in Romania that there should be no way my charge for these two phones should be more than the plans before or after the change with no extras charged (data, usage, long distance, etc)

What I took out of the conversation is that this is normal if change is made mid pay cycle.  The charges are under $20 for each phone, not crazy but as our phone charges are way to much as is that money is better in my pocket than theirs.

Good Luck

Hello RMC,

I was charged with over usage on unlimited plans

How is that even possible? You can not get charged if you have unlimited use... It's not overuse, but proration. If your current plan is higher the your old one, it's normal to pay more. Here's a short explanation about how proration works.

I'm guessing that he made the change to an unlimited plan, possibly trying to avoid overage charges without being aware of how pro-ration works.

Mathematically, you can never erase past overages by boosting your plan to a higher level. The changes only take effect for the rest of the billing period, and you pay proportionally for the old plan used (+ overages, if any).

Unlimited means unlimited going forward...doesn't include yesterday, last week or your birthday greetings from a few months ago being refunded.
The one phone was 800 minutes to unlimited. That phone finished with 615 minutes. Other phone was unlimited to unlimited, only changed data

If you were only 15days into your billing cycle for example than your 800min would be prorated to 400min. Then you are 215min over what you should be.
How many days into your cycle were you?
