cannot make international long distance call from koodo phone

I tried calling internationally.  I get a message "8 UV 1".

I saw an OLD post on here somewhere saying I had to add an International Calling add on.

I went to self serve to do it, but NO SUCH ADD ON exists.

I did add the International Long Distance Saver add on for 3. per month.

But I still cannot call international numbers.

I can call them when I am in Europe, but not from Canada.

What do I need to do.  I had an important situation come up recently where I needed to call the UK and could not.  The party at the other end tried to call me and got some message as well.

Why is this such a mysterious subject?  Not a single Item in the Koodo FAQs.

If I recall correctly, I believe that you also need the International Voice Roaming add-on enabled (it's free).

But in any case, they should be able to reach your number, whether you can call internationally or not.

I have international voice roaming enabled.  I have been visiting Europe periodically since May and am able to call European numbers from Europe using roaming.

Somebody else mentioned pay-per-use free add on, but it does not appear on the add-on menu any more.  I do not know since when.

And I agree with you 'THEY SHOULD" be able to call me.  But the reality is that they actually cannot.  they call the number.  they get a computer message.  call cannot be completed as dialed.  they are an international business, dialing international customers from London all day every day.  they know how to dial internationally.

Pay-per-use international long distance should be the free add-on for calling out of Canada from within Canada.

I remember that 2 add-ons that had to be be added - 1 that made sense (the one you're talking about), and one that didn't (possibly the one that I'm talking about).

Are you dialing the good number? Maybe that's why you can not call internationally.

You should dial like that : 011 + country code (01140) OR +country code (+40)

Keep in mind mind lot of countries have a 0 as part of the provider (like area) code that is not dialed when you're calling internationally. Most people give the number with it and forget that calling out of country needs it.

i do not understanding what you mean in this comment.

However, I have been calling a Travel Agent.  Their number is:

011 44 0 20 3023 7664

They provided me with that number.

I called it.  I get "8 UV 1".

Furthermore, they cannot call me.

Do any Koodo people troll these threads?  Is there any way to access a Koodo Guru?

I suspect this is something to do with a restriction on my account that has inadvertantly been imposed.  I have never had an overdue or unpaid Koodo bill in 6 years so it is def not a payment issue.

Hey Bonar,

Have you tried calling this number without "0" after the country code (44)? Could you let us know if you hear the same message?

Keep us posted!

For example, the provider/local code in most countries, including the UK, has a 0 prefix. In this case It's "0 20." when you are dialing the entire number from outside the UK, you remove the first 0, and that's why the proper format has it as "0 20" instead of "020." then you should be able to call by dialing "+44 20 3023 7664." I however don't understand why the travel agent cannot call you by dialing +1..." are they having issues and any other Canadian numbers ?
I have submitted this to Koodo support.  If I learn anything worth sharing within my natural lifetime, I will share it here.

Did you try Tayeb's suggestion? Did it work?
Sorry, for some reason I thought the forum would ping me  an email when there was activity on this thread, so have not checked in.

So yes, I just checked out Tayeb's suggestion and yes I can now dial international numbers, by leaving the zero out after the country code.

I have no idea why the Travel agency could not reach me.  they are a busy international travel agency dealing with dozens of North American clients every day.  They claim they tried to call and got a system message.  I do not know why.

Anyway, Thank you Tayeb for educating me about the zero.
