Call forward to USA number, and charges

Ok, after searching the forum, I've seen conflicting answers. One said you cannot forward to USA but another said call forward is restricted to North America (so, you can to US, but not other International numbers). So, can you? And, if you can, and you have the $3 forward feature plus the $10 US long distance, will that cover all charges, or will there be airtime charges? It would be nice to get a formal answers to this one, since employees give answers to what they think is possible, but then get a different response here. Thanks! Dave

Okay YES you Can forward to a usa number

However,

Since the call is being picked up in the USA, you will pay Roaming Charges.

The forwarding package koodo offers is for domestic forwarding and doesn't cover this. So you will also pay per minute forwarding charges.

Thanks for the answer. This raises one more question. If I wanted to forward to a US number, instead of getting the $10 US LD add-on, would airtime then be covered if I picked up one of Koodo's Roaming voice add-ons? Or would I need both the $10 US LD addon AND roaming add-on?

Sorry there is no scenario where what you want to do would be covered

Ok. That's odd though, no? US Roaming charges will apply, and a US Roaming add-on won't cover those charges. That's odd.

Why does Telus offer this service for $5 call forwarding and Koodo is owned by Telus

For the same reason Koodo offers a Tab and Shock-Free Data, and Telus does not. The two act independently, and provide different offerings to their customer base. They share transmission infrastructure and a few other things.
If both were the same, there would only be a need of one provider.

Well, can't be clearer than that! 🙂 Other than leaving a call back number on your voicemail instead, is there a workaround to avoid roaming charges. I admit I have zero experience with VoIP or other services.

When you get to the states visit a walmart and pickup a cheap android prepaid phone.

Download Google voice to it. Get yourself a google voice number.
setup your walmart phone to receive calls from Google voice.
Setup your koodo Voicemail extended absence greeting and set it not to record messages.

Record your outgoing message and give your Google voice number as a number you can be reached at.

Incomming Google voice messages will goto your email

Now leave your Canadian phone on.*** When people call you, you'll see the number do not answer it

Call them back on your walmart phone using google voice.

***Note: koodo prepaid will not function outside of Canada so you'll have to rely on google voice messages if you have Koodo prepaid. Other alternatives are getting a wind SIM with unlimited Roaming and forwarding your calls to that number. Unlock your koodo device. Use the wind SIM in the states. I've had bad luck with Wind cutting me off for making too many short calls so be warned.
