345 MB used in 6 days while in US, and I was not using Internet on phone

What causes Data use? Is it related to roaming? I purchased the $75 dollar add on, which has 500 MB of data. I will spend another week in US, and am not sure how to ensure I do not go over on Data. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Vince, what phone do you have? My guess is that your phone is using data for background apps (whether that's updating an app, or updating the weather, etc) Usually on most phones you can either limit or disable data use for certain apps under settings>data usage (this will vary depending on your phone). If you have an iphone, I suggest going to settings>cellular> scroll down and disable certain apps from using data. Also try turning off data when you don't use it, as this will help you ensure you get to use your data for another week. Also if you're on android go to playstore> settings>select update apps over wifi only if you haven't already. 🙂

[b]For iPhone: phone using cell data while supposedly connected to wifi https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4348072?start=0&tstart=0 The problem seems to span several different models of phone and iOS versions (page 5 of thread). There are 1180+ posts going back to 2012. First post suggested there may be a problem with LTE, but no real follow-up. Résumé by Lawrence Finch (Jan. 2015) on page 79 seems to be: If the phone is asleep WiFi is turned off. If the phone is asleep there are still apps that run in background and can use data.  If the phone is asleep and there are apps that use data they will use cellular data, not WiFi. Others have reported that the iPhone will prefer a stronger cell connection over a weak wifi. So the band-aid would seem to be: keep the phone plugged in at night. Set the sleep policy to never. Turn off cellular data when you don't need it. LTE options: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203124

Bob, iPhones do not have the option of changing the wifi sleep settings. If you don't know how a phone works, please do not give advice on it as all you're doing is confusing Koodo customers.
