I understand that Koodo currently runs only on 4G but will it ever be upgraded to 5G?

Per Whistleout.ca https://www.whistleout.ca/CellPhones/Guides/5g-availability

There are currently three 5G service providers in Canada: Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility and Telus Mobility. Rogers went live with its first 5G New Radio (NR) network in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal in early 2020, while Bell and Telus activated their 5G service the following June in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. At the moment there is no additional cost to access 5G service, but an additional monthly fee may be added next year.

Fido 5G, Koodo 5G and Virgin Mobile 5G will likely arrive in 2021 or later. These three mobile service providers use the same 4G LTE networks as Rogers, Telus and Bell but typically don’t offer premium features – like 5G service – until a later date.

I am sure Koodo will soon get 5g its on the same network as telus no reason why not - Found good deals here - https://www.offerhub.ca/provider/koodo-mobile/

Reason would be differentiation between the brands.  Take Public mobile for example.  They are 3G only with no LTE

Eventually, I'm sure, but there has been no timeline announced.
