Wifi calling for unlocked phones.

Hi, I just tried to enable Wifi calling on my One plus 5T and I can't get it to work. On the Wifi calling page on Koodo's website, it is written that I should be prompted to enter my phone number to receive a password, but I'm not.

Please help me with that, since I switched to Koodo, reception is worse inside my house. Thanks

Hi,
Wifi calling is not available on that device, you need to be using one of the devices listed here https://www.koodomobile.com/help/wifi-calling

No, we don't know when or what phones will be added for Koodo. Hopefully they add more phones to the list soon.

How about this @Lloyd Willett . Once the G7 one one or any new LG phone gets added to the list, I will personally tag you in a post so that you get a notification. Itll save you from asking all the time and will be easy for me since I'm on here checking every day! 😊

Sounds like a plan Allan

To add to this, it's unlikely that any network will allow WiFi calling on devices that they do not sell. At least, I've not seen it yet on any Canadian carriers.

Someone reported that they could change the CSC code on the S9 (from a different carrier) and Wifi calling worked https://community.koodomobile.com/android-81490/galaxy-s9-wi-fi-calling-and-volte-7787643

@Dinh to be clear: WiFi calling is absolutely "available on that device", it is fully capable of it. Check out the OnePlus forums and you'll see tons of people at other carriers (admittedly, not sure if any in Canada) using both VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on recent OnePlus devices, including the OP's 5T.

The correct statement should actually read:

Wifi calling is not available from Koodo on that device, since they only allow it on a small selection of models, and (other than iPhones), only when they were purchased from Koodo rather than elsewhere even though completely capable devices.

@srlawren : This is a Koodo forum, and mainly for Koodo customers, I thought the "Koodo" is always somewhere in my statement. I didn't have the intention to publish my statement to the world 🙂 if you think I did, then thank you!

And you are not right about the statement that "only when they were purchased from Koodo". Iphone from apple store and other carriers can have Wifi Calling feature "on Koodo network". I saw one Fido iphone and one from apple store had Wifi-calling on "Koodo network". "non-Koodo" Android devices do need some modifications "on Koodo network", but it wasn't impossible "on Koodo network"!

That's a different thing, as Koodo offers the S9. When I was with Freedom, I was able to use a V30 (originally from Rogers) to use the WiFi calling feature, despite Freedom assuring me it wouldn't work. There are ways around it when Koodo offers a variant of the device.

Eh, I thought Freedom offers V30 (with VoLTE and VoWifi) https://www.freedommobile.ca/plans-and-devices/mobile-devices/device-details/lg-v30-thinq

They do, but it was much cheaper to buy the Rogers device secondhand for me at the time.
