Don't try IMEI number. If it said account number wasn't correct then you might enter some thing else. Could you double check if you enter it correctly (the account number should be different from your number and can be found in the bill).

Did you reach out to your previous carrier? If it cannot be done online, you may need to contact them to finish off the port transfer process.
I have the same exact thing, my account is active and I am entering in the correct account info and still stays it is incorrect! so frustrating

You can try calling the porting department at 1-844-232-7678 to see if they can help you initiate the transfer.
