Open a marketplace in the community forums to buy/sell used phones

I'd like to see Koodo create a new area in the Community Forums for a marketplace where Koodoers can sell their phones to other Koodoers. It would serve as classified ads forum where someone who wants to sell their Koodo phone can post their phone and asking price. Koodo would not participate in the transaction but would merely provide a forum for people to get in touch with each other. Benefits: - People who want to change/upgrade their phones can easily sell their old phones to help pay for the new one. - People who want to replace a lost/stolen or broken phone, but cannot afford a new one, can easily obtain a replacement phone. - Create and increase community interaction.

It's a great idea but can you imagine the safeguards that need to be in place to facilitate that? You'd have to have a team dedicated just to making sure there are no inappropriate items listed for sale. Or handle complaints of illegitimate sellers. IMO There are already a number of options available like Kijiji and Craigslist or eBay that serve this purpose. Not to mention a number of local Facebook swap meet pages

Absolutely agree... especially the illegitimate sellers. Right now the "unlock" services are doing a "great" job already spamming their wares, I shudder to think what would happen if people were allowed to sell phones as well... I'm not sure why community interaction should increase really (apart from answering questions and sharing ideas, OBVIOUSLY) and I'd personally not advocate ideas to artificially encourage more participation 🙂 Still, that is only my opinion and it's a neat idea, keep 'm coming 😃

You make some good points. I do think, however, some of the safeguards are already in place. There are already mechanisms in place to report inappropriate content on the forums already. I don't see why that same mechanism can't be used to flag inappropriate items. The nice thing about having a marketplace in the Koodo forums would be that the phones are Koodo phones, so you would know they work on the network. The other sites (Kijiji, Craigslist, etc...) have a plethora of phones from other providers (locked and otherwise) which can be difficult to determine whether they would work on Koodo.

Even if this was put in place, I wouldn't blindly trust that the seller is being honest.

I think it's a great idea too! Maybe to simplify things rather than reinventing something that already exists koodo should have a "store" on eBay or kijiji and just link to that from the community.

This idea has been bounced around before and I'm still firmly against it. Without even considering the influx of spam/scam accounts, I just don't think there are enough of us to support any sort of local economy and would probably have to deal with shipping our phones. Plus, Kijiji already exists and I just don't see how this would be any different.

Someone gets duped out of a phone deal, does Koodo assume or accept responsibility? Not likely. So now we have an unhappy customer who wants something done. Even if Koodo were to make an attempt to try and track the seller, in all likelihood, the seller could have used fictitious credentials and is now long gone. So essentially there is no recourse. Now what? The buyer doesn't have a working phone and is out x-amount of dollars... The larger online e-sellers (Ebay, Kijiji, Craigslist) have some form of fraud protection and a way to validate whether a seller is legit or not, by way of reviews submitted by other buyers, the lower the rating, the less likely people will buy from that individual. A similar system could be implemented, but as others have mentioned, it would be a rather large undertaking, having to hire individuals to monitor fraudulent activity, mediate customer complaints, device returns, refunds and so forth. It's an interesting concept, but I have to agree with the masses on this one, in that there are existing markets already in place that are better suited to handle these situations.
