Not able to receive incoming calls in North York, Toronto


Work office locates at Yonge & Finch. I'm not able to receive any incoming calls since last Friday when I am in office. It's good at home. Something might be wrong with the towers.
I has asked my colleague who is with Telus and he has the same issue - no incoming calls received.
I'm not sure if Koodo or Telus has been aware of this issue. Please help.

Outgoing calls are always good, only incoming calls not received.

Try sending yourself a text. That will show if your communication loop with the towers is good or not.

Do the missing calls go to voicemail?

Download a signal strength app and see what your signal is like inside the building and outside.

Text message is working fine on both sending and receiving.
I'm a little confused what is wrong because the following facts:
1. My colleague's Telus phone can't receive incoming calls either.
2. It's good when I am home.
3. Put my sim card into another phone, everything seems working fine.

The caller will get long time silence then hang up. Sometimes the call goes to voicemail directly.

For the signal strength , I got -102 dBm Koodo.

You need better than -102. Any number more negative than -93 means poor reception.

I live in a rural area with lots of terrain obstacles between me and the tower. In the middle of my home office, my number is like yours, -103. Stashing the phone near a window improves it to -95. I can get normal service from my window, the but inside the office service drifts in and out all day long;  I can usually send outgoing texts which I guess require less bandwidth than incoming voice.

Phones also vary in terms of radio quality from one model to the next which would explain why the signal issues follows the phone and not the sim. If it was a Koodo SNAFU, the problem would follow the SIM, and this board would be lighting up with complaints since yours is a busy location.

Telus/Koodo and Bell/Virgin operate off the same towers, so those customers should have a similar experience based on the sensitivity of the phone. Would be curious to see signal numbers from Rogers customers in the same area.

I've always found it strange that noboby rates phones on their ability to perform in marginal signal areas. Many of us would pay a premium for such a handset.

Seems signal issue. I'm not able to get any incoming call even it shows 3 or 4 bars on my LG G3 phone. Everything is fine after I put my phone close to the windows, where I get full bars.
I never had this kind of issue before last Friday. It's so annoying.
I got a temporary solution so that I will not miss any call - purchase the $3/month call forwarding add-on and forward all incoming calls to my Fongo number.

That's what I ended up doing but backwards. In the long run, it was easier/cheaper for me to give out my CallCentric (VoIP) number in my home office to everyone and have that forwarded to/simul-ring my cell phone. Advantage is no cost and forwarding to a US number while travelling is not an i$$ue.

I also installed Zoiper on my Android and registered it with CallCentric so now the cell can answer anywhere where I am connected with wifi regardless of the mobile signal.
