How do I verify that a used Koodo phone is ok to buy / use.


I need to verify that a used Koodo Galaxy S II X is ok to use before I buy it. No money owed against it, not reported lost or stolen. The current owner says he's had it 6 months. I have the IMEI. What do I do, phone, email Koodo? Thanks

Your best bet is to call into Koodo. You can reach Customer Service at 1-866-99-KOODO (1-866-995-6636) or 611 from a Koodo phone. Hours of Operation Monday – Friday: 10am - 9pm Saturday: 9am - 7pm Sunday: 9am - 7pm

money is not held against a particular device however to the owner of the account, if you can see that the phone is currently connected to the koodo network with his sim your good to go just give him his sim card and plug yours in.

Hello Angus, Unfortunately calling Koodo will not help at this situation. They may just tell you to visit a Koodo kiosk to test if the phone is still functional and is still able to work on our network.

By calling Koodo they will be able to tell them if the phone was reported stolen or not to Koodo.

I currently have a Blackberry Curve with no data plan other than BBM. If I pull the SIM card from the BB and use it in the Galaxy then change to a data plan will everything be fine or does Koodo need to know that I've changed devices?

Yeah you'll be fine if you do that. You can do all your changes via self serve, you don't need to let koodo know what your doing via a phone call. I recommend you actually change to a BlackBerry specific data plan so that if you need to go back to your curve for some reason you won't loose data connectivity. I've done this myself. It works just fine.

I see what you mean. I just choose Blackberry as my phone type. I suppose this retains access to the BIS? I don't know if I'll even keep it. The only disadvantage I see is you don't have the US Roaming Data add-on if you choose BB. I do plan to use the 3 day Roaming Data and Text add-ons a couple of times a year. I assume I can just select a different device for the add-ons?

I know there is a lockout in the system to prevent roaming data add ons from being added to BB phones. I think it's based on te IMEI of the phone though, rather than the plan.

That's what I am wondering about. If I don't change the IMEI in my Koodo profile am I going to be restricted? It doesn't really matter I guess. I have no intentions of keeping the BB.

Hey Angus, the system will read what device you have as it checks the sim card and then the phone information updates(such as the imei), so the imei will end up changing. There shouldn't be any issues, but you may want to remove any Blackberry data addons to avoid possible conflictions. I would also recommend a data plan if you do intend on using data. ________________________ If you see a good answer, give it a star.

Thanks. I've got the phone now. The $39 data plan looks like the best for me.
New question. 🙂 I've got the new (to me) phone. The previous owner left the SIM card in it. Is this of any use to me? I don't mean that I am looking for a way to mess with the guy. Just wondering if I can or should use it.

Hi Angus, no, any SIM card can only be used on one account (in this case, his) so it won't be of any use to you 🙂 Unless he was kind enough to put an unused SIM card in, but I doubt that 😃
