If using an Android go into your texting app and press the menu button, then choose settings. Look for an option to change to a larger amount of characters some phones have it some don't. Some have to be sent as mms
no I have an old school flip out phone. Just the basics, calling and texting. Thanks for the try. I also have no idea what mms are?

MMS is a function such as picture messaging, sending sound clips, videos through texting.

And some phones send large messages as an mms (picture message) checkbooks phones settings under text or input or language for a option to expand texting limits

Thought most phones (even old school devices) could send between 140 to 160 characters per text message. If it goes over that number, the message often gets split. I'm wondering if there's a text message stuck in draft mode that's preventing the OP from sending more than a 50 character text message. What phone model do you have Kelly?

I've never heard of a 50 character SMS limit. The limit is 160 for ASCII and 70 for Unicode.

I wonder, were you trying to type in the area where the phone number goes?
