Grandson downloading games - how I I block him from downloading?

Got a cel phone for my grandson, I paid the phone bill but he is downloading games non-stop. How do I block it from self serve the download or at least limit him. He is only 11 and don't understand it cost money each time.

Well, I always think teaching kids responsibility early on is the best way to prep them for life. How are the games being charged though? On the koodo bill or on a separate a credit card account? You have a few options here: 1. Tell him to stop it. At 11 he is more than capable to know that. If he doesn't tell him the phone is going to be turned off. You can do this online, under phone and just click on the lost/stolen tab. You can turn the phone off and back on when he is ready. This will only work if for charges on your koodo bill. Remember, that even if you turn the phone off if he has access to wi-fi he will continue to be able to download games if there is a credit card is set up. 2. You can call koodo and ask to have a data block put on. He won't have access to the network but will still be able to use wi-fi and download games, but the charges are not gonna be on your koodo bill but the credit card if you have any set up. 3. Take the phone back so he learn his lessons.

As Chris said, young kids have to learn responsibility... though 11 is not exactly a baby and he should be able to. In reality I always recommend Koodo's prepaid plan for youngsters, because you control the cost 100% (you buy the minutes or data in advance, and if they burn through the booster, too bad... they will have to just go without until you top up again). With prepaid you pay $13.50 (with automatic top up) for unlimited texting, which is what most kids want/need the most... then as I said you can add a talk and data booster whenever it is convenient for you, or they can learn to do some chores and earn it as a reward 🙂

You get 10% off for automatic top-up?

Robert: Actually, you still pay full price for the base plan, difference is, they now deposit 10% of that amount right into your account, so if you have the $15 base plan, every 30 days, $1.50 is added into your account. Over time, it builds up, allowing you to either buy boosters or pay your base plan once in a while. EDIT: This happens if you add automatic top-ups, which suggests you're using a credit card. Other payment options don't get that nice 10%.

Well, doesn't he need an account to download games? What if you put your own account in there and each time he need to download a game he has to come see you?

You can monitor his data usage by login to your self serve or Koodo app. I like "data block" idea first, so he can learn how to use his phone without data. He can still download games and play them through WIFI. Some game doesn't require data/wifi to play.

Depending on your phone, you may be able to add restrictions to your phone (ex restrict the installation of apps, in-app purchases). I know you can do this on an iPhone under settings>general>restrictions
