Create a separate APN specific for picture messaging

Many of your plans (such as your Canada-Wide Talk and Text Plans) have unlimited picture messaging, but do not include data. It would be nice if you could implement an APN setting that only allows internet access to picture messaging (such as mms.koodo.com) and blocks internet access to anything else. This is a great way to avoid data related charges. Mobilicity has successfully implemented two APNs (one for picture messaging, and the other for internet usage). It will allow your customers to fully utilize all the features available in their plan, without worrying about overage charges due to background applications using data (as internet will only be allowed for sending and receiving pictures) while sending a picture message.

They do have one. edit: I originally had some info posted here as per Chad's comment below I've removed it for being out of date 🙂.

Unfortunately this doesn't work on every phone, and this is an old example that actually doesn't work. Dig around in the forum for a newer example. There are some changes but for some reason I don't remember them.

Thanks Chad, I did a search on here and pulled it up.

I'm with Chad and the OP here. An official solution that works for every phone would be great. My wife has no data plan (doesn't want one - in fact, she wanted the data block) and her plan includes unlimited MMS, which she can't take advantage of without turning data on.

According to Koodo, their tech team did a test using every phone currently in the lineup. A significant number of them went right back to the sim default koodo. It didn't matter what the user had it set for. Therefore it's not a viable solution for everyone just some. It's the manufacturer who has programed locked the firmware to behave in this manner.

This has been going on with my phone for months now. I have talk and text and use wireless hotspots. I even have the Internet APn changed so I dont accidently use data. Yet somehow I have between 500-800 kb used a month, which of course is $5 I refuse to have data turned off, as this stops the unlimited MMS they advertise. I dont want to worry about wireless everytime I text. Why cant koodo fix this, or is this a money grab. 800kb, really??? That isnt data use. and their tech support cant help me saying the pnly way is to block data

I don't think it's a Koodo fix...it's the phone manufacturers

I don't think so.....any phone company should be able to separate different kinds of data. I think some of the already do this. Even Koodo, if you are on a prepaid plan with them. Just not on the monthlies.
