Contacts not always displaying properly.

Can anyone tell me why it is that in some cases when I receive a text or call, that the person's number only appears on my screen, even though I have their details saved in my contacts... meaning that I have to search for their number to know who it is - if they start a conversation or I don't recognise the conversation thread - whereas for others their name appears in full, so that I know immediately who the sender is.

That's weird. First step is to try and pull out the battery and sim card for a few mins and try again. If that doesnt work, are all contacts saved in the same address book? What messaging app are you using? When you reply do you see the conversation history? What happens when you try to save the number to your contacts from the messaging app? What phone are you using?
Thanks... did the battery and sim pull, nothing changed. Yes all the contacts are in the same address book (not split between phone and sim etc.) For messaging I use WhatsApp and the factory installed Text Messages app. Yes I see the full conversation threadhistory. The 'add number to contacts' option is greyed out as it knows 'a contact with this number already exists'. My phone is a Blackberry Q10. The 'problem' has only occured since moving from Bell to Koodo.

When people call you, does their name show up? If it's the number is it a normal ten digit number?

Navigate Ot the phone app Swipe down from the top and choose settings Choose # Smart Dialing Your settings should look like mine (with your area code of course)

So when people call, even when they are in my contact list - only the number is displayed. I did as you suggest for the smart dialling and that is all good. What I have noticed is that numbers stored in my contacts are stored in a 0123456789 format, whereas when they display on the screen the number is formatted as (012) 345- 6789. When I chose one contact and reformatted the number so it appears the same in the contact list as on the display - the individual's name then appears. So I could (very labouriously) go through my contacts and edit them but that brings me back to a question of why does it do this on some, but not all of my contacts? ps. How did you create that task specific image of your phone!

It could be that some of your contacts are linked with other of the same contacts and the numbers are confusing the system As for the device mock, it's an app called Mockit: Check out Mock It in BlackBerry World! You can find it at http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/41219887

All my contacts are purposely unlinked - but thanks for the suggestion. Thanks also for the Mockit info. I already have Mockit but haven't yet found how to make a device mock like yours.

Do you know how to screen shot? Press both volume keys simultaneously.
