Can I put my phone plan on vacation suspension when I am in the USA for the winter?

You can but if the plan you're on now is no longer available, you'll loose it forever. You won't be able to return to it. Worse yet, if you're on the old tab system you'll have to choose from whatever was available on April 18th 2015 unless you pay off your tab balance.

If you're on a plan you really like it may be beneficial for you to stay in your current plan for the winter . Changing to the suspension plan is 15$ per month.

Check the website to see what's available for you now.

$15 a month + taxes + whatever recurring tab charge you have does little else than preserve your number and keep your SIM alive in the system. Seasonal suspension is just another change of plan as far as Koodo is concerned, and when you go back into service, you'll have to choose from what's available at that time. If you decide to terminate your service, I would suggest unlocking your phone while Koodo still can. Your tab balance then has to be paid in full on your last bill. My preferred alternative (while under the old tab rules) was to get the phone unlocked and use a US SIM while snowbirding. Koodo bill went from $50 a month to $20 a month, tab contributions from both parties continued, and I found acceptable US service for about $30 a month, so it was win-win. When you are ready to return to Canada, just choose your new plan on-line and you are good to go. If you have cancelled your service and been away for a while, you will need a new Koodo SIM ---- you won't have service till you visit a point of sale. Most US budget plan operators do not roam into Canada, so you may have no convenient way to contact people arriving to pick you up at the airport.
