Area code 250 in Vancouver

I just activated my number and I was given an area code of 250 rather than 236, 778 or 604. I live in Vancouver. If someone calls my 250 number from Vancouver, will it be considered long distance? I want to change it to Vancouver number but the website says I have to wait 14 days. Is there any way around this?

The area code 250 has been out there for a while. It is a BC area code. If your contacts have a province-wide plan, there shouldn’t be any issue.

You can find more about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_code_250

Hey @Sein!

If you need to change your phone number prior to those 14 days, you can reach out to us on Twitter or Facebook and we’ll be glad to help. :)

The combination of the area code and the exchange is what determines if a call is long distance, not the area code alone. You can use the site below to check the local calling area. (NPA is the area code, NXX is the exchange. Leave the other fields blank)
