As long as the phone you buy from lets say Walmart is unlocked then yes you can bring it to Koodo & get it setup as your new phone. If it isn't unlocked then you have to pay to get it unlocked. Ask before you buy if it is unlocked.

How much to unlock depends who it us locked too, if Bell then drop the phone & run from the store as fast as you can.

If you buy it from a carrier (Bell, Rogers, Koodo etc...) it will be locked even if you pay full price up front, at least until Dec 2nd 2013.

Did not know that, but if she buys from other then Walmart then always good to ask if it's locked & to whom.

Wal-mart isn't the only 3rd party Koodo dealer out there. If she buys the phone from Apple directly, it should be unlocked. If she buys the phone off of kijiji or ebay, she should ask for it to be unlocked if it not already. Regardless who the phone is locked to, if it is not active with said provider, they can't unlock it, as far as I know. She can go to places like gsmliberty or cellunlocker to get it unlocked. Only then, will she need to know the previous provider.

Locked vs Unlocking is not the issue here. She is going to Wal-mart to get an iPhone 4. Being that WM can sell Koodo, she should not have a problem when getting said phone as long as they have one in stock.

She may have seen a deal from another provider that's being advertised at Walmart for less than Koodo though, so he wasn't really wrong.

Could be but that wasn't mentioned by the OP. I just went with what was originally stated.

When buying a phone from Wal-Mart, they should have Koodo iPhones there. They are authorized Koodo dealers and as long as they have the phone in stock, they will just activate on your Koodo account.

As long as you buy a Koodo phone (or a non-koodo phone that is unlocked and runs on koodo's network); then Yes you can move your current plan and number onto that new phone
