I want to go with an iphone with Telus and keep my number I have for my Samsung phone with Koodo. I could give my Samsung phone to a family member of mine; can they get a different number? How must I proceed?

First and foremost, get your current Koodo phone unlocked. Then sign up with Telus for your new iPhone and port your current Samsung number over. Should be done at a Telus retail outlet near the end of your current Koodo billing cycle, and will terminate your agreement with Koodo. Will cost you the price a new SIM for the iPhone (if not already included) plus your remaining Koodo tab balance and any overage charges.

You will then have an unlocked slumbering Samsung phone which can be used by anyone on most Canadian providers. Must then be registered with a new number anywhere in Canada.

If you were switching to iPhone using Koodo, then the situation and advice would be different, but you seem adamant to switch providers, so answer is in consequence.

Just as further information, the phone number/plan/account used is not attached to a phone. It follows the SIM card.
