Will there be roaming charges for unanswered calls resulting in voicemails while in UK?

I'm going to be in Britain for three weeks. I was planning on taking my Samsung Note 2 and just using it like an ipod (no calls or data, just wireless). However, I'm wondering what happens if someone from Canada calls my number - especially a telemarketer! Will my phone ring, and if I don't pick it up and it goes to voicemail, do I get charged some kind of international roaming fee? AT&T, for example, appears to operate this way.  p.s. I know about the option of unlocking the phone, getting ad-ones etc.

Why don't you just turn on airplane mode and wi-fi? It will stop any calls and texts from coming in and you will be able to still use your phone with Wi-Fi

Thanks. I might want to turn airplane mode off for a quick text or two (I know I need to contact Koodo to make int. texting possible). I would still like to know what happens if someone leaves me a voicemail. Will Koodo still collect voicemail for me, and if it does, will it charge me international fees? I figured if I didn't answer I wouldn't get charged, but I hear this isn't necessarily the case.

There is no charge for someone leaving a voicemail on your phone, as long as you don't use your phone to listen to the message while abroad.

Thanks for your response. That's interesting - a lot of providers seem to do this (charge for incoming international calls when you're roaming, whether or not you answer them, and then an additional fee for a voicemail if it's left, even if you don't check it). They actually recommend disabling voicemail while your phone is out of the country. I need my voicemail to remain active, precisely when I'm away, so I can check it when I get back!

Hello Samantha.

You could also check your voicemail from abroad too if you call your number (from any other phone) and then dial * after the voicemail started!
