I will be using the $45 per month roaming in US. I understand that I can get unlimited text and phone calls but what about people from Canada calling or texting me? Will they get charged because I am in the US with my Canadian phone number?

No, for them it will be as if you were still home.

Think of it this way, Catherine, your number does not change while you travel, and your friends have no way of knowing whether you are home or abroad. They just call your (local, for them) number and pay the same as always.

It is you who pays the roaming fees but it would be unfair if your callers were changed as well :)
