I recently open an account with Koodo. I did this in the province of Quebec although I clearly explained to the representative of Koodo that I was moving to Ontario. I asked about long distance calls: what it meant using a a number from Quebec in Ontario. I was told there was no problem as my plan is Canada Wide. However, I’m now discovering that when in Ontario, those who call my number and don’t have a Canada Wide plan are being charge for a long distance call. Is this correct?

Yes. Folks in Ontario without a Long Distance plan would be charged to call your Quebec number.

Thanks. I wish the representative would have told me that.

You're not stuck with that number, you can change it to an Ontario number at no cost, Philippe.

Unless you want to change your number and you have decent data amount on your plan, you could always use Fongo or Textnow so you have a local number for people to call you with. It's what I do.

Excellent! Thank you both for those informations. It’s really helpful. Plans in Quebec cost less than those offers in Ontario: there was an appeal for me to get my plan in Quebec.

You can also use CallCentric which does not require a wifi connection.

Get a new local number from them and get your calls forwarded to your existing cell over your regular mobile data connection for about 2 cents per minute. Add a SIP box to your cable or dsl modem and you also have a landline.
