Will a Telus Samsung Galaxy Note 5 work on Koodo without unlocking?

Since it's uncertain whether Koodo will carry the Note 5, I'm considering buying one from Telus outright.

It's probably too soon for anyone to know for certain, but if I get a Telus Galaxy Note 5 would I have to unlock it to use on the Koodo network?

Any potential issues to be aware of (i.e carrier/os updates)?  This would be my first Android phone, so better safe than sorry :)

In 99% of the cases, you don't need to get it unlocked. There shoudn't be any issues, it uses all the same network. All you will need to do is change the APN settings from your phone so that you can get the data connectivity. You can get the info for the APN settings here:

Ooh, that seems simple. I don't need to do anything aside from stick my koodo nano sim in, turn it on, and adjust the APN stuff? No activation hoops to jump through?

Thanks for your assistance :D

From what I know, the big service providers don't allow people to buy phones outright unless they have an account with the provider you are purchasing the phone from. Unless that rule has changed in the last 3 months

You have better luck buying it online. Stores sometimes say no because reps don't make commission on it.

Figured I'd post an update since some people may be interested in getting their own Note 5 to use with Koodo.

I ordered mine from Telus's website within a week or so the release date.  Bought the Note 5 outright, didn't need to be an existing customer nor did I have to buy a plan.  Received it within a couple days.  It worked with my Koodo SIM card right out the box, no unlocking was necessary.

It's working beautifully and set up was hassle free.
