I have just activated a Talk-Data plan as of July 1. When I am at home, I use the data features by activating my home network on my modem.
When I am at Tim Horton's I used to link to the local wifi and then use the data features.
Now when I go to Tim Horton's and use the data apps, will it be by wifi ( and thus no usage incurred) or by the cell network?

If you're connected to wifi, all data use will be via wifi. If not, it will go through the cell network.

Hi there Terry... Even if you are connected via WIFI, your phone may use the Koodo network for internet... The phone will work with the strongest signal available, so maybe you are on wifi but is not strong enough and your phone will continue to load the info with the strongest network available...

My recommendation to you is to have your data TURNED OFF whenever you are connected to wifi, like this you will be 100% sure that the internet you are using is wifi and not the one from you data package, like this you will save precious MB's...

You can also download and install on your home screen ad Widget called Data Enabler, with this, just by tapping you can enable/disable your data connection directly from your home screen...

Enjoy the services and remember to monitor your usage on the Self Service account...

I notice that when I use Tim Horton's wifi there is a log on screen with a disclaimer. You would need to "accept" this on that opening page first before you are actually using Tim Horton's Wifi. You would have to do this everytime you go to Tim's

Actually, with most public wifi hotspots, when you first connect you are assigned a 10.x.x.x ip address. This is also referred to as a redirect ip and will only allow you to access the providers terms of service page until you accept their ToS.

But before authentication/ToS, you wouldnt be able to use the wifi internet to check email, facebook, etc. The app would hang until you officially authenticate or accept the ToS

If that's addressed to me, I never said you would. Apps don't work because they're also being redirected to the ToS page when they try to access the server.

That's correct. Until you accept you're stuck in the authentication loop. But you're still on wifi connection during that time.

Sorry that was just a general comment. Not addressed to anyone in particular or addressed to everyone :)
