Koodo did a poor job in explaining WiFi Calling billing details.

https://www.koodomobile.com/help/wifi-calling
Local calls: these calls will be deducted from your monthly voice allowance and any overage will be rated according to your plan
Canada calls (domestic long distance): you will not be charged long distance
USA or international long distance calls: customer will be billed at their plan’s standard international long distance rate
So, is it the number you are calling to that decides how it will be billed?

For example, if I am in Japan, using WiFi Calling to call a Canadian number, it will be treated as Local (I guess) or International?

Hi EverettC:
You cannot use wifi calling while you are in Japan, outside Canada. From the link you posted above :
"Wi-Fi Calling is only available in Canada. When you’re outside Canada, your phone will not allow Wi-Fi calling or messaging"

@EverettC: You could try some VPN service that allows your wifi to connect to a server in Canada. It might trigger wifi calling as if you were in Canada. I haven't tested it with Koodo myself so cannot confirm 100%.

@Everett, you could just use Easy Roam and take advantage of the minutes in your plan. It’s only $12 a day. So, if you are planning on making a call back to Canada day for an hour, twelve bucksis actually a decent deal. And while you are at it you can also use your data and text. Basically you would use your plan as if you were at home.

Is that only a Koodo thing? Because I saw Fido getting connected while outside the country, why would Koodo be different?

Only Fido allows it, VM and Koodo (Telus&Bell) don't.
