Just wondering why I would have to have a DATA plan to get the updates via wifi for my phone? Why cant I simply "plug into" my home computer to get them? Or am I missing something?

Wifi is the free way to let your phone use your home Internet (or anyone's Internet) connection to get updates. You don't need a data connection via Koodo to do this.

Thank of wifi as a wireless plug into your home network.

The only reason to have data on the mobile network is to get those updates on the go. And to send picture messages, which can't be done over wifi with Koodo

With that current plans, all of them either offer data buckets or access to pay per use data. If you don't want to use data you can turn it off in your phone or call Koodo and ask them to block it

I know what wifi is... thing is I dont have wifi at home. I have to be "toally wired" for my work here at home, so I only get wifi when I'm out ie: Timmies or Mcdonalds etc

I am unaware of any other way to get your phone to access your home network other than wifi.

Which phone is it? Depending on the model, it may have a PC program available to install updates. Or... some of them likely won't be updated anyway, like the Ace II X.

You can upgrade your modem to a wireles router. A wireless router will still have connections for your computer. I have one at home like that.

The Ace 2x is capable of receiving OTA updates as long as it's running Android version 4.0.4. An update was released last week and installed without issue on my Ace 2x over Wi-Fi. Colleen is using an Ace 2x.

But she also said she has to be totally wired because of her work. So wifi is out of the question here

The only other alternative would be Samsung Kies or a public library that offers Wi-Fi. Timmies and McDonalds tend to enforce time limits and/or restrict large downloads.

Collen So Google Samsung Kies (which is the software you'll use on your PC to update your phone) and download the most recent version of Samsung kies software on your PC . Once its downloaded and installed open the software on your PC and connect your phone with the USB Cable that was included with your device. Click update at the top of the screen and it will let you know if an update is available for your device. Just follow the instructions to install the update if there is one available .
