Why my LTE data speed is low?

This is the best I have been getting in Edmonton (Download: 12-15 Mbps and Upload: 20 Mbps). I have brought my unlocked galaxy s6 from Wind mobile and it currently has the wind mobile firmware. Do you think that is the problem? The only way to update the firmware to koodo is via odin and I dont want to loose my phone warranty. Please advise.

Thanks,
V

Does anyone else you know have an LTE-enabled device with Koodo you can test the speed with? But I don't think that your phone is the issue. I've had LTE clock in under 10 Mbps many times.

Tthats a good point. I can try with a phone locked to telus from one of my friend. And btw, this is the usual speed, I never get more than this. I have seen people reporting more than 70 Mbps.

Depends on the area you're in, how many people are connected to that tower at that time of day, etc. I recommend trying doing another speedtest later at night, outside in an open area, when the network isn't as congested and you have a clear line of sight.

I did try to reset the phone to factory setting but it still has the wind firmware. Do you think data wipe will update my phone to koodo firmware?

And I am located in center of Edmonton and the coverage suggests that I should get LTE, which I do. But just the data speed is slower than other people reporting. BTW, how much is the usual speed with Koodo LTE or LTE+ in urban areas?

Thanks,
Vaibhav

That is really good speed. I work at UofA and I don't get that speed.

The building can interfere with cell signal, especially LTE.

I'm with Rogers with an S6 and just did a speedtest inside my house on my bed just north of Toronto. 78mbps down and 7 up. I know they have faster LTE than everyone it seems, but I can barely get 3G inside of the ebgames at Hillcrest Mall near my house, and forget about Pickle Barrel at Yorkdale - my phone barely works there. So there's a trade off to having these great download speeds sometimes - the network hasn't quite evolved enough to keep up with deadzones. I had slightly lower speeds when I was with Telus but the coverage and reception was better so I'm debating coming back.

I also had less calls go straight to voicemail unlike the weekly occurrences with Rogers. It's unfortunately a pick your poison scenario.

Honestly though, anything over 25 mbps download speed is a bit overkill on a phone anyway. I sometimes turn off my LTE and run on 3G/4G the whole day instead to conserve battery.
