Today my Galaxy Ace is giving me my message tone every 15 mins but no messages. Also there is a new icon in L/H top corner. It is a vertical white rectangle with an exclamation mark. I assume these events are related.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

May be phone-specific, but Android 4.4:

Messaging=>Settings => (scroll way down) => Message alert repetition => choose NEVER.

Worth a try

Thanks Bob I dont have that feature. But while looking for it I found out my messages were full (non there of course) and internal phone storage was low. I suspect I got hacked or got a virus. This is an emergency phone only and until today have not sent or rcvd a call/text & other than billing from koodo e-mail for several months.

Bob .. also when I tried to contact this forum today I could not get on via any of my e-mail/password addresses, However I was able to reinstate them identically as if they never existed, which again suggests something unusual. Hence I am a noob even though I have been here and active for several years.

If the phone was left fallow for a number of months and especially if the battery died, many settings may have disappeared. Factory reset may being it back to normal after backing up whatever data is still worthwhile.

Swiping downward from the top of the screen will invoke the notification pane and should tell you what the 'white rectangle with the exclamation mark' is. This is the icon I get on occasion with failed texts or MMS messages (Galaxy Ace).

Thanks Bob & rikkster for following up. Much appreciated.
Bob: Phone did not lie fallow I carry it with me everywhere & charge it as required.
I just don't use it. My daughter bought it for me in case I fell off a cliff while hiking alone, though I'm not exactly sure what use it would be then.:)
rikkster:
I have swiped down previously and no info was displayed .
The notification ring stopped this a.m. (24hrs). I now suspect it was my koodo bill notification attempts. I have 2 PC's & my wife's I pad & they all received the notification yesterday. I didn't get it on my phone because "messages are full" even though I don't have any. So apparently Koodo attempted to send for 24 hrs.
Apparently I am out of Phone storage. 184 MB used, but my 8 phone apps only add up to 75 MB?...Go figure. Still researching memory issue.

If this is an emergency phone, then back up the few important things you want saved and complete a factory reset. It is the quickest solution
