Why is my international text not being charged?

I am travelling in the US right now. My cellular data is turned off because I didn't want to incur roaming charges. But I knew that if I was connected to wifi I could still "text" people using iMessage. I accidentally sent a text to a friend, thinking I was using iMessage, but then the message was green meaning it was a SMS message instead. Oops! I didn't even know it was possible to still send texts this way - I thought I had disabled that ability by turning off cellular data. Is there a way to stop yourself from sending SMS texts instead of iMessage? I have an iPhone 7.

So then I assumed I would be charged $5 for 100 international texts (that was what the chart I found said). But then I looked into my account and it's showing $0 being charged. So, should I assume I still have 99 SMS texts to send while I'm here? Or should I see if Koodo will forgive my mistake and not charge me $5? Am I even being charged in the first place? Help! Thank you :)

Here's a screen shot of my self-serve texting info. It says international texting but no charge?!

There should be asetting to send as sms when imessage fails.  Just turn that off.

If you are connected to AT&T and sent an sms then you will be charged.  It may just be a delay if it is saying $0

If you do end up getting charged you can call Koodo or contact them through facebook(https://m.me/Koodo) and explain the situation and they may be able to reverse the charges for you as well.

User error is typically not considered to be a valid reason for reversing charges.

"May" be able to. Ive had charges removed from my account twice now for user error making accidental calls or texts while in the us
