Why does the keyboard vanish as soon as I dial a number? especially since I am then asked to press a number that is no longer there.

The keypad can be brought up again by pressing the dots arranged in a square while you're in a call.

Hey Ashford.
This is a feature of the phone, so when your talking on the phone with someone numbers aren't being pressed during the conversation. if you want to bring up the keypad it should be called keybad or dial pad or a picture of one. hope this helps :)
