The boarder are not as seamless as that. Since you are no longer on Koodo's network, you are using a US network while you are there. And the US network charges Koodo for that access.

On the other hand, roaming fees are ridiculously high. I personally believe the high roaming charges are a money grab. Either that or they have the worst roaming agreement negotiators (who should be fired)

To be fair with koodo their new roaming add-ons are actually quite good in comparison.

$75, enjoy unlimited talk and text, and 500MB of data while travelling within continental U.S. per month is not bad at all.

Yeah well so while Koodo charges us for using the US network they shouldn't charge us for the Canadian one.

You are still using Koodo.....they connect you to the various US carriers they have roaming agreements with....that's why you will see sometimes AT&T, T-mobile or whoever else show up on your phone. If you are going to be in the states for 6 months, you can log in to your account and put it on 'seasonal hold'. Only $15 a month, it keeps your number and your service is put on hold. Phone won't be usable. When you come back pick a plan and your service is back on. Just bear in mind you may not be able to keep your current plan.
