Need new phone and want to keep current plan. Why do I have to upgrade to a more expensive plan in order to get a new phone? Just seems to be a money grab to me! We just need the phone for traveling and emergencies. I do not need an expensive service.

You don't. If you want tab medium, your plan needs to be 40 dollars to get it. If you don't have 40 or 35 in QC then you can get it on tab small without needing to change your plan. Fire off a message to Koodo via Facebook messager or DM via Twitter to get around it.

You shouldn't need to contact koodo. All plans would qualify for tab S

I tried it and when I select a phone I'm told I have to select a new plan.

Hi rjhurd.  I hope you had a good long weekend.

Goran has asked our Koodo contact for more info about Tab S.  The mobile masters are under the impression that all grandfathered plans qualify for Tab S.

So as I understand this, even though my bill from Koodo is $60+ per month with my addons, I can't get a new free phone unless I change to a plan that costs me MORE?

Koodo doesn't give phones for free at all. There is the tab which is basically financing with small subsidies if any. Sales are done through them, but you're not getting a phone for free.

You can get a tab small regardless of grandfathered plans and you should be able to use tab medium as well with 60 dollar a month spending.

Rj, you can keep your plan if you want to pay up front for the phone. If you want to finance it, switch form you "old version" of tab then you will have to switch plans. You are on what we call "classic tab" and have accumulated about 46 dollars worth that you can put towards a new phone's full price.

@ Bernard
I thought existing customer who has a plan under $40 is still able to upgrade their phone on Tab S and keep their plan.

RJ is on a $25 plan. To take advantage of our tab (financing the phone) you have to be on a minimum $30 plan. Rj can keep the plan they have just needs to pay for the full price of the phone.

Rj, we do not make you take on a new plan. Fido, Virgin does that. As I mentioned you can keep your exiting plan by paying the full amount for the phone. Are you saying you are being asked to change plans even buying a phone full price? If yes we can take a look at what maybe the issue.

As you said you barely use the phone at all, so I can understand wanting to keep your current plan and we let you do that.

I do not wish to pay full price for the phone, I'm a pensioner and on a very tight budget. I want it on the Tab. Can you assure me that if I go to $30 dollars I can get the phone on tab? Telling me I have to go to a $30 plan is saying I have to have take out a higher cost plan. It may only be $5 more BUT it still requires me to pay more on a plan.

What phone are you looking at?
They changed their Tab system and there is no more Koodo's contribution.
If you switch to $30 plan to use Tab S, then your monthly charge will be $30 plan + $10 Tab Charge = $40 per mo.

RJ, have you considered a prepaid service? Phones can be had for less than $100 and based on your usage you could pay as little as $15 a month.

@ Richard! I have an update for you. Indeed, you should be able to select a phone on Tab S even with your old plan. Can you pls post a screenshot here if indeed that something that you still can't do?

Thanks for following up on this Bernard.  We thought it was possible and happy that it is.  This is one of the advantages of Koodo and why I sing it's praises over the competition
