Hi there!

If there is usage, it is because at a certain moment your phone connected to the network outside of Canada, regardless if it was a few minutes or hours, if the phone connected, this will trigger for sure some charges (I am assuming data charges since you say u did not use it)

Log into your Self Serve account to check usage details and then you can see where the charges are coming from!

Next time, Airplane mode before you leave Canada if you do not intend to use phone abroad!

Enjoy!

Even though you didn't use it except on wifi, it's entirely possible that some data was consumed in the background. Did you have the phone on airplane mode or sim card out otherwise? Also do you have wifi assist disabled?

It is definitely there. Settings, cellular, bottom of the list.

You can also just take out your sim card so you don't have to worry at all about charges.

When airplane mode is off and it is not connected to wifi, then you could have incurred roaming charges.

What features did you need that you had to turn airplane mode off?

Goran and Dennis: brilliant. Turned off wifi assist. Can't recall exactly what I was doing when turned off airplane mode but will be really aware of repercussions if do that again while abroad.

Data roaming should also be off if you're not intending to use data

Or to be super safe, take out your sim card before you leave Canada

Good Day, Sandra,

In Regards to your question regarding unexpected "Roaming Charges", I can relate.  When I went to Long Beach, California a number of years ago, with "Telus", as my Cell Phone provider, I answered my phone many times as my then girlfriend Eve S. was back in Toronto, concerned about my well-being.  When I returned home to Toronto and saw there was approx. $100.00 in roaming charges, and phoned Telus, a division of KOODO, I learned about Roaming charges.  I expect the same thing happened to you since you accumulated these roaming charges while in Mexico.  I hope I could be of some assistance.

Sincerely,

Scotty B

Were you really surprised that you'd be charged extra for using your phone out of country?

Was aware of charges if deliberately used cellular services, which I did last fall in US. Then the flat daily charge was worth it . On this trip I thought I was on wifi for all phone usage. Not so, I see. Lesson learned.
