Why can't you transfer (port) existing number with existing Koodo network?

I have 2 Koodo phones, on one the tab is fully paid off, the other has tab on it. I want to transfer the number of the paid off phone to the newly bought phone. How can I do that?? Self serve does not allow any such number change, and gives a message "the Koodo number is already in use".

You don't have to use the phone with the account you signed up with... just swap SIM cards and cancel the line you don't want. Probably the easiest solution in your case :)

I have a similar situation but I still have a small tab balance on the oldest phone and phone number.  I want the number I've had for the past year to be on the newest phone and plan (purchased this past December).  And I want the new ported from Telus number to be put onto the older phone with the smaller tab balance and lower plan.  Can I do this?

hi al mel,
You need to break it down into simple terms of A,B,C instead of older, oldest and new Telus. In the forum, we (customers) don't have access to your account and had no idea how many numbers you have had and for how long.

A general answer to the question of switching 2 numbers on 2 Koodo plans is No.

It requires you to port out the numbers you want to switch onto the plans you prefer to another provider/Koodo prepaid and then port back. You're going to lose whatever number the plan you want to keep currently has.

Ok this is what it looks like on my bill and this is what I want to do.  Sort of sounds like I can't though.  I have two phones on one account.

  • Phone number A (ported from Telus recently) is on the iPhone X's rate plan ($45/month) but the sim card has been put into the iPhone 5s phone
  • Phone number B is on the iPhone 5s's rate plan ($25/month) but the sim card has been put into the iPhone X's phone
  • I would like Phone number B to be on the iPhone x's rate plan ($45/month) and the Phone number A to be on the iPhone 5s rate plan ($25/month)

@Al mel,
If you want to keep both 2 numbers and 2 plans intact (just switch), then I don't think you could (especially with a grandfather plan). In order to do so, you will lose one number as Goran mentioned.

I will just try to change the plan to suit your need with each numbers.

Phone numbers are linked to SIM cards not phones, so if you take the SIM card linked to the phone number you want to transfer and put it into the phone you want to use with that phone number it will work seamlessly.  The only potential issue is if the 2 different phones use a different sized SIM card.  If that is the case you would need to get the appropriate sized SIM card and then activate it with the Phone number you want to use it on.  This can be done through self serve website or through the automated system by calling *611

I can swap the SIM cards but then I won't be able to cancel my new connection as there is a tab on that phone. I did 611 and learnt that it cannot be done, instead they suggested me to cancel the new phone number (less then 5 days old) and get a new phone upgrade, but I got the new phone on the Boxing Day and got a very good deal, I will have to return the gift card that I got for new activation. The other option could be that I transfer my old phone number to say 'Chatr' and then port it back to my new number with Koodo. You think that will work.
