Why can't I use my data anymore?

I recently changed my phone plan from 750Mb to 1Gb Shock-Free Data. Ever since the change, my data hardly ever works. I have barely used any data because I can't get it to work anywhere I was using data before. I can't use it at work, or in the car. I was stranded on the side of the road tonight, and couldn't use my data to Google our car problem to figure out what was wrong. Why can't I used my data anymore, when this Shock-Free data is supposedly better than my previous data plan?

Have you tried rebooting with out the Sim card in the phone, powering back down and putting the Sim card back in?. Maybe toggle airplane mode a few times and then reboot. Also sometimes but not frequently a factory reset could be needed to keep your phone working properly. Let me know if anything helps.

What exactly would a factory reset do to my phone?

It helps keep out issues that apps nay be causing that stops your data from working. Or any bugs that have been there from past updates. If that didn't work your next step would be to get a new sim card

Stephanie, the plan change would have no effect on your ability to use data. It maybe just a coincidence and as the folks suggested it above, it is your likely phone (looks like it's an S4) or the SIM that may need some help.

Well I finally  had time to make sure everything was backed up so I could do the factory reset. My phone has spent the last hour trying to restore a few dozen contacts, won't charge properly, won't connect to data or internet, and won't restore a good 80% of the apps I had backed up. Basically, I lost everything and STILL can't use my data.

A little patience goes a long way. It took over 8 hours to migrate from one android tablet to another in my case: backup, reset and restore from the backup over fast wifi.

All of your installed apps + the updates have to be re-downloaded from Google. Best to do this when the phone is fully charged. Turn it off, let it recharge overnight and go again. Don't try to use your phone in the meantime. You have nothing to lose.
