Why can I not text when not in service but have wifi going

I have switched to Koodo and am using the Samsung phone when I'm in wifi range but not in service why won't the text still go through with the wifi

Hi Icie,

SMS messages or "texts" uses your mobile phone's cellular network to connect with the Koodo network and route your SMS to the proper recipient. Wireless networks (or "wi-fi") is not equipped to handle the protocols and searching algorithms required to send an SMS message to the recipient.

If you wish to communicate through WiFi you would need to use a third party app such as Facebook messenger or Whatsapp.

You can in the States with Google's new Fii program or whatever they call it, but the technology is still very new. Still in the testing.
