Why am I being charged for data I haven't used?

My monthly bill last month had a data charge on it, and I have had the data turned off since then because I didn't want to pay the extra data charge again. Now my bill this month also has a data charge however my data has not been turned on since then.

Hi Kaitlyn!

I see that you don't have a data block on your account. If you don't have a data block added through your account, there are still ways that data can be used unbeknownst to you even if you have blocked data in your settings.

I suggest that you restrict background data and make sure that your apps are not refreshing by themselves.

Here's how:

1) Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > turn off and make sure that all apps are turned off.

2) Go to Settings > Cellular > Use Cellular data for > Make sure all apps are turned off.

That should stop background data from being used :)

If ever you decide to add a data block that still allows you to send and receive picture messages, that service costs 2$ a month.

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply, Daniel.
So even though I have the cellular data option turned off and all apps turned off, it can still be used? I've attached a photo of what my data settings looks like.

Is there a possibility that this is an error? I purchased the plan without data because I don't want to pay for data, yet I still am, and you say I have to pay extra per month to ensure that the data really won't be used?
I am really frustrated with this.

When was the last time you reset your data usage stats?  if it was during the end of the previous month's billing cycle, then the 11.5 MB was used during this time since it was last reset.

Does self serve data usage say you used 11.5MB (or close to that) too?

Thank you for replying.
My previous cycle says 2.06MB which I already paid the fee for, the current cycle says .01MB, but all apps are turned off. The last reset was done May 31st which is likely why it says 11MB.
I have not used ANY data since the last cycle because I ensured all data settings were turned off.

I have also noticed a small fraction of data like 0.01 mb in the past as well (many years ago).  Did Koodo charge you for that?  If so, I think you have a good case.  You also may want to reset your data stats at the end of every billing cycle so it shows 0 mb used as further proof if Koodo so desires

My data is shut off too, and It says I have 1 GB data but mean time I get charged 30 cents so far, I only talk and text and now that my tab is paid off my bill is more then it usually is. 9.00 for add ons, really. If it keeps up I will go else where.

Ok multiple things here.  I'll try to take it step by step.

Your data is shut off.  This could be for a many reasons.  Was data working before?  When was it last working?

When you say it has 1GB, are you looking at your usage on self serve and it says you have 1gb of data remaining for the your billing cycle?

You say you bill is usually more now that your tab is paid off.  Have you downloaded your full detailed PDF ebill from self serve?  All charges are fulling broken down in this file.  you might be able to find out what you are being charged for.

Can I request an employee to resolve my issue? I have not used data, not in background apps or anything similar.

Your best option would be to send a private message to them on facebook
