While I have the 75 added text message plan for the Caribbean, are there extra roaming charges that I have to be worried about?

I just added the Caribbean package to my existing koodo package. I was told to put my phone on airplane mode except for the time I am using it to avoid extra charges. Do I have to do this?

You are covered for text with that add-on, but not for voice or data which would be extra $$$ for every use.

Putting the phone in aiplane mode, and then re-activating wifi separately, will enable you to use wifi wherever there's a hot spot at no extra charge.

If you turn on airplane mode, you won't receive texts(and calls).
And when you turn it off, you will receive all the texts at once.
I would leave my airplane mode off, then I have choice to text back or not.

Your add-on:Mexico and Caribbean 75 Texts includes 75 outgoing texts and incoming is free. If you answer phone calls, there will be roaming charges.

I would turn off my data.

Alternative: If your phone supports it, you can change your ring tone to none, turn the mobile data off and forget about airplane mode as long as you can avoid the temptation to make a call.

Interesting as I can turn my phone to silent. However if someone leaves a message will that initiate roaming charges as my phone picked up automatically.

Leaving the ring tone silent will leave you with a notification that a call from 000-000-000 was bounced. You then have the option to spend a few bucks to call them back it it's important.

AFAIK, no roaming charge as long as you don't pick up the phone, and voicemail is free, except for your calling to retrieve the messages.

I don't think you get charge if someone left a message on your phone. Because it doesn't use your airtime minutes.
But if you check your voice mail, then you will get roaming charges.(listening to voicemail uses your minutes)
