I'm looking into getting the Iphone 5S with either the 40 or 50$ a month plan (leaning towards the 50). I'm just not sure which tab size would work best at saving money. Also, would not going with a tab and getting the phone off Apple be an even better option?

Thanks :)

If you get the Tab S, the 5S would cost you $575 upfront. Your monthly plan cost would be $40 or $50 per month.

If you get the Tab M, the 5S would cost you $425 upfront. Your month plan cost would cost an addition $5 -- that is $45 or $55 per month.

If you buy it directly from Apple at full price, it would cost you $719 upfront. You could then get a 10% from Koodo -- so $40.50 or $50 per month. In addition, your phone is unlocked so you could use your 5S with another carrier in Canada or abroad when travelling. Also, your iPhone would have a higher resale value (by virtue of it being unlocked) if you decide to change phones.

Thanks for the reply! I was just trying to figure out if getting the medium plan was worth it, even though there is a 5 extra charge to the plan.

If you get an Iphone 5S with $50 plan, your total amount after 24 months will be...
Tab S: $575 + (50 x 24) = $1775
Tab M: $425 + (55 x 24) = $1745
From Apple: $719 + (45 x 24) = $1799

quasario has a great point of buying it from Apple though :)

I just have one more question, if I were to go with getting the phone off Apple, would Koodo take money off the bill, like they would if I had a tab?

You would get 10% off your bill since you brought your own device (BYOD). That is why in Mayumi's calculations the plan cost $45 ($50 - 10% off = $45)

Also note that is you unlock youe phone with Koodo it will cost $50 (after 3 months of having your account in good standing)

EDIT: Weird it messes up the comment when I try to make a heart. I just wanted to add that I *heart* math lol

Thank you for calculating that! That really helps to see that getting the medium tab is worth it in the end. :)

On all plans and phones, the Tab M is the best deal overall. :)
