I am only curious because my voicemail number is different from the phone number i had ported in a couple years ago. Right now, i have a feature phone right now and to access voicemail i just hold down #1 (its the samsung evergreen).

Is the voicemail itself actually directly attached to the phone or is it more of a network thing? My phone now knows when i recieve a new voice mail - will that still happen on the new one as long as the SIM card is inserted?

voice mail isn't attached to the phone as far as I know. Try inserting your sim into your unlocked phone, it should work. If the sim card size is different, you can get one for 10 on postpaid and 20 on prepaid.

You also have to make sure that you switch your SIM card on your Self Serve account so the information can transfer from one SIM to another. Koodo stores can do this for you as well.

Only if you are getting a new SIM due to a size difference. If the SIM slot is the same size just move it over and see if it works in the unlocked phone.
Voicemail is usually associated with the account rather than the phone so you should be able to switch phones without a problem. How you access voicemail may change. My guess holding #1 is a speed dial thing on your feature phone.

Yep it is a speed dial thing, holding #1. i could use the others to call other people, i just dont remember whose programmed into any of those slots so i never use it.

As far as the sim card, i had no intentions at all of getting a new one. the phone is in the mail but ive seen pictures of the back of it opened up and the slot looks to be the same size as the one ive got now.

Technically, both were released only a year apart, so i imagine sim technology couldnt have changed huge during that time.

This will be my first android phone so ill need to learn how to use it, but i wonder if there is somewhere in the settings to put in my voicemail number? Im just wondering how it will differentiate that phone number from all my contacts numbers.
