You'll have to wait for Essential to announce when they will take it out of beta.

Thank you for answering so quickly.  Generally if you had to guess when do you think that will be?

The  final Android  P up date has been available forthe  Essential PH1 since the 6th.
I downloaded it then by changing out to another SIM. It's a 1Gb download, but  shouldn't take more than 30-45min to complete install.

Seems a  Telus rep on their forum  just  stated that "Telus is waiting on more information..." on Android P[?] What this means, who knows.
I have been using it for 3 days now, no problems, better battery life.

They're a newer company. It's hard to tell when. I can only guess on a similar timetable for when they launched oreo.

Two phone types got an IMMEDIATE Pie update for Android.

Pixel and Essential phone., They were released on the sixth. There doesn't need to be ANY information on Android cos...they already have the update. Koodo and Telus, as usual, are sitting on their thumbs until they're good and ready to release it. Please stop stating things like "it's up to the timetable" or "waiting for more information". I've already confirmed with an Essential phone rep that it was sent out to Koodo/Telus immediately upon launch. It's them, not Android, that's dragging their collective heels!

Just take your sim card out and check for update, if it doesn't automatically work then remove your google account and perform a factory reset and set up all without a SIM Card in the phone and the update should be pushed to your phone, I've had the update on my Koodo Essential Phone since the day after Google dropped it for the Pixels and I just don't have a SIM Card in the phone as it's my backup device.
If you don't want to wait.

We don't work for Essential. We don't work for Koodo either unless you see "employee." We just don't know what we don't know

If you swap another carrier SIM card eg Fido it will push the update.

1]Right after you put in another SIM, you should get the Essential notification.
2] YES. It's always best with major updates not to fiddle with the phone until the update is complete.
Best to keep it plugged into a power source, and never remove the SIM etc as that might abort the update and end up bricking the phone. Not good.
After the automatic re-start you will should the Essential screen saying the phone has been successfully updated to Android 9.At that point  you can turn off the phone and exchange the SIM.

Essential usually releases update on the 5th of every month. While koodo usually does near the end of the month I find. You could sideload the update if your impatient. Just make sure you have a USB 3 cable not USB 2 otherwise it could mess up. The default charger is USB 2 btw.

There is no need to sideload, as the Android 9 Aug 6 release is the official Google/Essential version of Android Pie.  Sideloading would be taking  a needless  risk.
Just swap SIMs and there will be a prompt to install.
This major update also includes the August security,  although it will still show  as July 5 security. Essential will be correcting this.

I wouldn't risk myself, better leaving it for all the update!

Don't even need to swap SIM cards just take your sim card out, if it doesn't automatically work then remove your google account and perform a factory reset and set up all without a SIM Card in the phone and the update should be pushed to your phone, I've had the update on my Koodo Essential Phone since the day after Google dropped it for the Pixels and I just don't have a SIM Card in the phone as it's my backup device.
