With the announcement of Google Chat, the issue of RCS implementation raises its head again. Is Koodo planning on enabling this feature anytime soon for compatible phones? Thanks.

It might take some time
Google has been building support for RCS over the last few years and now plans to push Chat in the next 12 - 18 months.
If they supported iMessage, I'm sure they will support "Chat"

Carriers don’t need to support iMessage. It is managed entirely on Apple’s servers. Same with FaceTime.

It works on Rogers - I had it on my Moto G4 Plus before I ported over to Koodo.

A rep should chime in soon if there are plans to. Don't expect much of a timeline beyond "yes at some point" until it's actually deployed.

Telus is on the list of carriers so I'm sure it's coming when Google actually implements it

I think the video is a bit misleading.  There is some support for it now, but Google is pushing for carrier support over the next 1-2 years as well as adding additional features similar to those included in Allo.

Where are the options to enable it on your device when available Michael?

All I truly care about is better quality mms capabilities the compression on Android is horrific, they fix that I'll be happy as can be. Right now that's one of the only things that has me leaning towards grabbing an iPhone as my next phone is mms are way better looking

Now I'm sure that Telus/Koodo had disable this feature on their Network for the time being for all other devices except the ones on the VoTLE/VoWiFi list (only the V30 so far).
I kinda get it because why overload the system with that kind of traffic when only a few percentage (10% more or less) of device have/can use those "enhanced features". Once VoLTE is fully deployed those "Chat features" will be accessible to any and all capable devices.

@TJ I could be wrong, but to the best of my knowledge VoLTE and VoWiFi have nothing to do with RCS.  RCS is a completely separate service and systems from VoLTE/VoWiFi.  I mean I guess you could see it as analogous to VoLTE/VoWiFi in the RCS will eventually extend and supersede  SMS/MMS in the way that VoLTE+VoWiFi will extends and will eventually supersede regular GSM/CDMA/UMTS voice calls.

I think the adaptation of RCS will be much quicker than VoLTE and WIFI-Calling because SMS is so outdated, and the newer generations seem to be texting a lot more than talking. I don’t think it will launch at the same time as Telus but it would be just a little behind (Fellow iPhone 6S user lol).

Be careful what you wish for. Advertisers are positively salivating at the opportunities to reach customers through RCS-compatible devices.

@David oh boy.  Yep, I guess we will get inundated with stuff like that eh?  I guess something has to pay for all this "innovation".

iMessage uses regular data, so I'm inclined to believe that RCS will do the same.
