Been with Koodo for years and previously a percentage of monthly bill reduced outstanding tab for phone cost. So as a loyal customer if you stayed with Koodo you're got your phone for about half the cost. Now if I'm understanding, you pay your monthly cost PLUS the tab cost for 2 years?? upgraded phone about 3 years ago and there were no additional costs as long as I kept my plan going I had to pay about 1/2 up front and the remaining was reduced each month. When did this change??

It's exactly the same. You pay half upfront, and the reminder on the tab. It all changed with the migration to two year agreements.

You are now not locked into a contract, you can cancel at any time. You just have to pay your remaining tab.

Before, your monthly plan included your tab in the price, now it's separate.

Remember, before you were paying the remainder of your device off over THREE years. Now it's two, so the monthly charge is higher.

You never auto paid half up front and you don't pay half up front now except by coincidence of phone price being double the tab you opted for. There were no cancellation fees before except maybe at the beginning with Koodo. I can't say for sure because I wasn't with Koodo at that point.

The up front cost depends on the price of the phone. If it's high end like Samsung or Apple, then it's roughly half. That also depends on whether you go tab small, medium, or large.

Roughly half in some cases but not exactly and definitely not for all phones. Its the price of the phone - Tab charge.
Tab L: $504
Tab M: $360
Tab $: $240

I'm looking at Samsung S7, costs 528 , $320 up front then 10 each month for 24 months, small Plan. Previously upgraded years ago to a Samsung S4, cost about $300 but paying tab wasn't extra, it was just a monthly reduction for every month I stayed on as customer. Much better loyalty reward.

Then the plans costs have really increased in price because my plan is the same price as the one they are offering but now the tab is an additional charge. I got my last upgrade for the upfront cost of. 1/2 the phone and the second 1/2 was reduced each month. This was about 4 years ago.

And I was never locked into anything, if I left then the outstanding balance not yet reduced by the tab was charged in full.
