Plain sms is the only Messaging service that doesn't use data.

If you're looking for more than the standard Messaging App on your phone I recommend Chomp SMS.

Chomp will use data for things like downloading themes or backing up your messages to the cloud. But it only does those things when you want it to.. Not in the background. Otherwise it doesn't use data. Make sure you're on Wifi and it won't use data for these things.

Conventional Text messages sent via your cell (SMS) never use data.

Conventional Picture Messages (MMS) require data to be enabled even if you're on wifi but the data they use use isn't counted by Koodo.

Well I don't know why people are saying chomp is using up data in the background 1 guy said he's seen up to 500 MB used

Anytime Chomp sends or receives a picture it is using the cellular network (at least it is with koodo). The phone will register that as data use but Koodo doesn't count that data.

For instance this is my use since the 19th

Also if you download themes and backup over the cell network, that will count as data use too.

It works the same as stock messanger .
MMS picture messaging like normal needs Data on but is not charged to your data usage.
Thats all it uses Data for.

google messenger is one of the best out there it allows you to customize each ring tone, block, change the color of each individual conversation, swipe to archive also quite quick to load and battery wise i haven't noticed a different since i started using it 8 months ago
