Koodo has multiple agreements with multiple carriers in the usa. Your coverage is great in the usa. Basically if there is service in the area, you'll get it.

That's unfortunate that there's an area that doesn't work. You can get a local prepaid sim from one of the carriers that do have service so you can have something at least.

Subsequently, I discovered that Verizon had by far the best coverage of the Show Low area. I am not sure why it did not show up on my networks scan (by Galaxy Note 4). Locals confirmed Verizon available. Should I have changed my phone's Network Mode to see it? If no other solution, next trip there we will buy a prepaid Verizon SIM.

I don't believe Verizon is one of Koodo's roaming partners. That would most likely explain why you couldnt see it in your list of networks.

Generally it's AT&T and T-Mobile as explained below in this thread.

Your best bet then is to get a Verizon SIM or a MVNO that uses Verizon's network. They might be cheaper.

Arizona, Utah, Nevada rural areas coverage is sparse on all networks, even US ones, since there is a legacy of independent carriers there. Verizon is fundamentally incompatible with Koodo due to network frequencies and technology. Only valid roaming partners I have seen in USA are AT&T and T-Mobile. Coverage is as good as native providers, even on Koodo prepaid.

In the US you'll be roaming, generally with AT&T or T-Mobile. Coverage will be pretty much what they can offer.

If you're planning a trip to the US might I suggest a roaming add-on?

Talking by experience, you'll get service almost everywhere you go in the USA except maybe some small rural areas

Given this news from Verizon:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/a...

... will the new 700 MHz phones and / or an unlocked Wind / Mobilicity phone work on Verizon while roaming?

Realizing that Verizon doesn't have HSPA+ coverage , so the current Koodo phones won't work except on T-Mobile and AT+T, but given that Verizon has a much better footprint in the States than these two companies, the newer phones working would be a plus!

You added the roaming boosters?

You may need to goto setting and network selection and choose manual. Your phone will scan and show you the available networks. Choose AT&T or T-Mobile.

Also try restarting your phone. Press and hold the power and home keys.

Set carrier to manual and choose AT&T or T-Mobile

When you return to canada set this back to automatic.
