What do I need? Okay I have never owned a smart phone before - I have a Samsung s5 unlocked. I will use it mainly for texting, email and Data - but will be connected to wifi about 90% of the time. Only a few phone calls will be made on the phone. I don't want to lock into a plan and don't want an expensive bill haha!

Can you suggest a plan? I read something about 10% off if a bring a phone to koodo
What do I need to get started - to get a number sim card, phone number etc? Costs?

Thank you for your suggestions

You've never owned a smartphone and you got an unlocked Galaxy S5? Go big or go home eh?

Go to a kiosk that supports Koodo and they'll let you know what your options are. For postpaid, you'll need 2 pieces of government ID to sign up; one of them must be photo ID and you'll need proof of address (driver's license/provincial ID card is the easiest one to get started).

You can get 10% off a postpaid plan and you're not tied to anything because you have your own device. You can leave whenever you want. You can see if anything suits your needs here:

I'd recommend the $39 plan (plus 10% discount comes to $35.10), it gives you a little bit of everything. 300 daytime minutes for the month, evenings/weekends unlimited after 5PM until 8AM, Canada-wide calling, unlimited international texting, 300 MB bucket of data, and call display/voicemail. If you want a bit more you can jump up to the $44. These 2 are the best valued postpaid plans.

There's no activation fees, administration fee, or any nonsense.

You could consider prepaid if you think it'll suit your needs:

Go prepaid if you won't use much data.

Depends if he needs Canada-wide calls. Prepaid rollover data is pretty good, but it won't work for everyone. A lot of people like consistency.

Hi Andrew, you can indeed order the Micro-SIM card online: http://koo.do/GCXK7A. The postpaid one is $10 and the prepaid is $20. Postpaid accounts can't be activated online and you will have to call us (free of charge) at 1-866-995-6636 to activate the account. For prepaid account, simply use this link: http://koo.do/Q2fiAq. Welcome to the Koodo family :)

There are pros and cons to either; prepaid or postpaid.

Jonathon has a very good suggestion with the $39 plan.

I just wanted to add a bit about prepaid...

Prepaid is better if you want to go with the bare basics:
$15 - unlimited texting
+$5 - 25 minutes /month
+10 - 100mb of data (not a lot)
and you are already up to $30 and then most people do go over this data/calling..

I'd recommend the $39 monthly plan.
