Based on specs alone, the s8 would be better than the 7. Double the screen resolution(1440×2960 vs 750x1334), ip68 vs ip67, bigger screen (5.8 vs 4.7), more ram (4 vs 2), bigger battery (3000 vs 1960), bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.2.

As for the iPhone 8, since not much has been released yet, its hard to say but it will definitely be a competitor against the s8.
Thanks for the information

When comparing high-end model, specs aren't as important. They're all great performers and then it comes down to the little things like the UX and design, many of which are subject to personal preferences.

Technical specifications aside, one invests in the infrastructure (the total experience).  Samsung is Android, and iPhone X is IOS.

The app stores are different and once one invests in one infrastructure you will lose your investment by going to the other.

I'd wait for the next generation iPhone and then I'll compare both.

It really boils down to the OS and ecosystem you prefer. They both offer excellent hardware (biggest differentiator I think is screen resolution followed by battery life in favour of the s8/s8+).

From my experience with both the Samsung is what you want if you want to get access to free video and music files where the iPhone you have to pay for everything. If your into taking video and photos and want to be able to have the best mobile editing software then without question go with the iPhone because android doesn't have anything that can compare on this front. Also the iPhone or iOS is much better for games as the iOS versions of the same game include much more graphical detail of the same game on Android. They're both awesome phones but to me this is what it comes down to as well as Android being much more customizable.
